Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association & the Construction Associations of Saskatchewan Partner to Support Men’s Mental Health in Construction
The Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA) and the Construction Associations of Saskatchewan (CAsofSK) are proud to officially launch the Saskatchewan Construction Industry Movember Challenge, following its exciting announcement at the ConEx conference and tradeshow on September 26, 2024. This campaign is dedicated to enhancing mental health awareness and support within the construction industry. Mental health remains a crucial issue in the construction industry, where workers face unique pressures that can lead to higher rates of stress, anxiety and depression.
The Movember Challenge offers two simple ways for the construction industry to get involved:
- Move Challenge: Engage in regular physical activity throughout November.
- Mo Challenge: Grow a moustache to spark conversations about men’s mental health.
Join the Challenge
Both options promote mental and physical well-being, aiming to reduce stigma, encourage open dialogue and build a culture of understanding and resilience within the construction sector.
“We know that working in construction comes with stress factors that can have hidden psychological impacts. Mental health concerns are as critical as physical hazards in our industry. We encourage the construction community to use this Movember challenge as an opportunity to have conversations with their teams and share resources to ensure everyone gets the support they need. Together, we can build a positive culture of understanding, resilience, safety and healthy, profitable careers for all.” –Edward Pyle, Vice President, SCSA

We encourage everyone in the Saskatchewan construction industry, from site workers to office staff, to get involved. Whether you grow a mustache, get moving, or donate, every effort makes a difference in supporting mental health and saving lives. Let’s come together to change the face of men’s health and create a stronger, healthier industry.
“Partnering with SCSA for the Movember Challenge is a significant step toward addressing men’s mental health within our industry. By participating—whether through Moving or Mo-ing—we are showing our commitment to ensuring support is accessible to all in construction.” –Shannon Friesen & Kevin Dureau, Co-CEOs, Construction Associations of SK
Why Movember Matters to Construction
Mental health often remains a hidden issue amidst the physical demands of the construction sector. In an industry dominated by high-pressure environments, long hours and physical risks, mental health challenges can frequently go unnoticed. Every member of the construction industry has a role to play in creating psychologically safe environments. Movember provides a powerful platform to address these challenges head-on.
Since 2003, Movember is the world’s leading men’s health charity that funded over 300 men’s health projects across Canada focused on mental health & suicide prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. This year’s Saskatchewan Construction Industry Movember Challenge seeks to raise funds and awareness for Movember, while empowering Saskatchewan’s Construction industry to discuss their mental health and access the support they need.
