The Saskatchewan Construction Safety Association (SCSA) is pleased to announce three winners of the 2025 SCSA Awards. These annual awards recognize and celebrate companies and individuals in Saskatchewan’s building construction industry.
The winners are:
- Corporate Leadership in Safety – Ram Steel Ltd.
- Safety Leader – Sean Lyons, Tron Construction and Mining
- Safety Practitioner – Ray Decena, Zak’s Building Group
Winners are evaluated on their safety practices, leadership contributions, as well as efforts to fulfill the SCSA’s mission of promoting safety within the construction environment and creating a positive culture around safety in the province.
“We saw so many great nominations this year, it confirms the resonance of our vision to build a culture of physical and mental safety for all,” shared SCSA president Collin Pullar. “These winners are excellent examples of our members who are committed to making a difference on their sites and in the broader industry. We extend our deep appreciation for their dedication to protecting people, and ensuring safety is valued, practiced and enhanced every day.”
Ram Steel is a repeat winner for Corporate Leadership in Safety. Since their first win in 2023, they have further developed a safety culture that prioritizes prevention, accountability and continuous improvement. Employees receive extensive training and are encouraged to model safe practices and positively influence their peers. As a certified COR® company, they take a proactive and structured approach to address hazards. Recent initiatives include energy-based hazard recognition—which trained workers and supervisors to identify hidden energy hazards such as gravity, pressure, electrical and mechanical forces—supporting their commitment to achieve an incident-free workplace.
Sean Lyons is a mentor, coach and trusted resource for his colleagues. He is a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®) who is active and respected in the broader construction community. Sean helps workers gain confidence to recognize hazards, speak up about concerns and take ownership of safety in their roles. He consistently demonstrates a genuine commitment to ensuring people remain safe at work.
Ray Decena actively pursues continuous education, builds trust with coworkers and makes sure every voice is heard in safety meetings. He is a National Health and Safety Administrator (NHSA™) who leads by example to ensure that safety is embedded in daily operations. His dedication is making an impact to improve both safety awareness and performance.
The SCSA congratulates all award nominees and recipients for their leadership in making Saskatchewan’s construction industry safer for everyone.
